Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Advanced Nurse Practitioners have done additional training beyond that of the general practice nurse, and use clinical, diagnostic and treatment skills. The role provides an alternative and complimentary source of healthcare alongside the services provided by the GP. You may be offered an ANP appointment for such things as chest infections/ENT problems/skin complaints/Urinary infections for example. The ANP will be able to provide prescriptions if clinically appropriate.

Practice Nurse

Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.

Healthcare Assistant

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

Administration Manager

The Practice Manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The Practice Manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

Administrators/receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. When requesting appointments, they will ask you to provide some basic details this is so that they can book you with the most appropriate clinician. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.

Clinical pharmacists work as part of the general practice team to improve value and outcomes from medicines and consult with and treat patients directly. This includes providing extra help to manage long-term conditions, advice for those on multiple medicines and better access to health checks. Our pharmacists may well contact you regarding your medications.

Community Midwives

The community midwives care for women throughout pregnancy and after birth, working with GP’s and hospital services. Ante-natal clinics are held in both surgeries. To make an appointment please phone the Community Midwives on 01349 864571 at Dingwall Health Centre.

Health Visitors

Health visitors are qualified nurses who have undertaken additional specialist training. They provide a home visiting service which is available to all families with babies and pre-school children. They offer a programme of health, development and wellbeing reviews and are able to provide advice and support on a wide range of issues, including infant feeding and nutrition, maternal health, immunisation, dental care, home safety, minor ailments and parenting. If children are experiencing particular difficulties they can offer additional support and oversee the provision of the services of other professionals if required.

Physiotherapist

We have a practice-based Physiotherapist, Lynn. She runs clinics in both practices. Please contact reception for details of how to get an appointment.

Primary Care Mental Health Worker

You may be referred to see a Primary Care mental Health Worker at the practice. Before being seen, you will need to complete the following 2 forms and submit them to the practice prior to your initial appointment (printed copies are available from the practice)
